In this course we will practice yoga postures with the purpose of creating stability and stillness in preparation for pranayama. The main focus of the course, is to develop an individual pranayama practice for each participant, based on traditional pranayama exercises.
We welcome Joanna Darlington back to Shanti for a weekend long workshop of Hatha Yoga on the path of Ashtanga Yoga.
Whether you consider yourself a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you can apply this more profound awareness taught in the classical Yoga texts to the style or system of Yoga you currently practice. Regular practice in pranayama automatically removes negative aspects of our personality and, as the texts say, “our true nature appears.”

ABOUT JOANNA: she started with yoga in 2004. Though she has studied various styles, including Iyengar and restorative, she has maintained a primary focus in Ashtanga yoga and the lineage of David Garrigues. Through her teaching she supports this lineage and the lineage of her teachers teacher, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. She has continued to learn and benefit from the depths of her practice and study as it has been presented to her through the guidance of her teacher and dedication to daily practice. As senior apprentice to David, she often travels with and assists him when sharing his knowledge both in the US and India.
Join Maryl Baldridge for a 2 hour Ashtanga + meditation practice at Shanti Yoga Studio.
Maryl is the co-owner of Georgetown Yoga, Dupont Circle Yoga and The Yoga Shala. She believes yoga is a profound healing practice that supports a conscious and courageous life. Through her interdisciplinary perspective, she works to make the practice approachable and available to all students. Maryl has been teaching yoga for ten years, and has recently started a Mysore style Ashtanga program at The Yoga Shala, where she can teach the Ashtanga tradition through a method that encourages the unique growth of each student's individual practice.
